Will God forgive me for the terrible thing I have done?Answer: The first thing I believe God wants to say to you is that He loves you! He says in His book, the Bible, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16, 17) Then I believe God wants you to know that if you will ask Him to save you from your sins, He will do just that. You need to say to God that you are a sinner, and I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died on the cross for all my sins. Ask Him to save you and make you a daughter of His, in Jesus name. Amen. If you prayed that prayer and really meant it, God has forgiven you for all your sins and has saved you. So, yes, God will forgive you for the terrible thing you did, even as He has forgiven all the terrible things all of us have done who asked Him to forgive us of all our sins, and who have become children of God. That is the neat thing about the Christian God; He is a loving God and a forgiving God. Now, if a person will not admit that they are sinners in need of salvation God can't help that person. There is no sin so bad that God cannot forgive it, just read the Bible and you will find any sin that man can commit, God can forgive it if a person is truly repentant. That is why Jesus died for us, and that is what grace is all about! Now if you have asked God to forgive you for your sin and asked Him to save you, you also need to forgive yourself! What you did is in the past. We have several good discussion questions about this that you will want to look at. One of them talks about how your sins will be cast into the sea of God's forgetfulness. In other words, God chooses to forgive our sins when we come to Him for forgiveness. “Who is a God like You, Pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” (Micah 7:18-19) Jane Roe of Roe vs. Wade (real name Norma Lea McCorvy) has renounced her stand on pro-abortion. She now says, "I think it is wrong, I must take a pro-life stand." Even a person, like Norma McCorvy, who had a big influence on the abortion of over 40,000,000 babies in the United States, has been forgiven for her sins. God looks at, Norma, as if she had never sinned. The same is true of all who repent and put their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation: “… not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:5-7) I trust that this helps, Gary Panell For more information e-mail me at To view other questions visit our Interactive Bible Study Page or read some of our Christian Literature at Bible-Christian.org |
